Vancouver Island Swim Challenge

In order to encourage everyone to use the swimming pool, our Math teacher, Aileen and a few student swim promoters put together the Vancouver Island Swim Challenge. Our goal in the last few weeks has been to swim as much as we can. We keep track of the kilometres by houses and the goal has been to swim around Vancouver Island.

The event ended with a Pedder Bay Swim, where students suited up and dove into the ocean on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.

How did we do after 18 days? Collectively, we swam a whopping 785 kilometres which would have gotten us all the way to Elk Bay on Vancouver Island. There was a good participation rate and many students would not have exercised at all if it had not been for the challenge. It's the perfect habit to get into right before our busy exam season. As Aileen puts it, "looking after the brain means looking after the body". The rhythm of exercise and swimming in particular allows one gain a better perspective on our immensely busy lives at the College.
