On January 19, Prime Minister Stephen Harper arrived on campus to announce a new funding program to increase the production of green energy in Canada. In addition to greeting our diving and environmental activity students, Mr. Harper visited Race Rocks and the Tidal Turbine Project. Details of the announcement can be found in:

It was a whirlwind of activity as news media and security personnel descended onto campus to prepare for the event. Only one class block was altered for the day which gave students the opportunity to gather in the Common Room to hear the announcement. Many students were excited about the event and came out to greet the Prime Minister, while other students continued with their work as usual.
According to Andrew Spray, Pierre Trudeau was the last sitting Prime Minister to visit Pearson College almost 30 years ago.
