Visiting Guest Musician

by Lisa Mitchell (music teacher)

On Sunday, November 6th, Pearson students were treated to an evening concert in the Max Bell Theatre. Visiting guest musician Tyler Kyte performed a number of original songs at the concert. Although he is young, Tyler shared his compositions and performance talents on the stage while singing and playing solo guitar and piano with ease. Tyler was recently honoured by the Canadian Composers Association as one of the up-and-coming young musicians to watch in Canada. The concert ended with a collaborative version of the Beatles' song “Let it Be” which featured Pearson students Mary, Ruakiri, Alice, Chris, Tim, Nathan B., and Hunter. The gospel choir added their wonderful voices to the mix, and a good time was had by all.

On Monday, Tyler engaged first and second year music students in a two hour long workshop on the art of songwriting. Students shared original compositions with Tyler and each other, and were appreciative of the opportunity to share their compositional ideas in an open performance forum.
