PROJECT WEEK: OCTOBER 22 TO OCTOBER 30

Project Week is an experience, in small, of identifying values and putting them into action. Those values are the ones which lie behind the activity program of the college, involving Humanitarian Service, Active Citizenship, Outdoor Leadership, or Creative Experience. The knowledge (information, skills, self-knowledge) that is required in advance and gained through the experience varies with the project.
Greater Vancouver Food Bank

I worked at the food bank for the whole week. There I had two major tasks to do. The first one was to sort out the canned food. I had to look at the date to see if it was still good, to throw away dented and unidentified cans and to put the cans in the right boxes. Once the cans were in the boxes, I brought the boxes on the right skids. The second task I had to do was to prepare donation envelopes that the food bank will send all over Vancouver to ask for donations. Usually, during the morning, we worked in the warehouse, and in the afternoon, in the administration room.

Through this project, I gained the knowledge about how a food bank works, and what they need to fulfill their needs, and who benefits from it. I have now a much more sensitive and real perspective of it, and while talking about the responsibilities of the food bank, I learned a lot about the people that need it and how life brought them to that point. Really, I believed that I am now much more aware of the difficulties lived by many people. Now, I want to help them more again. The work we did helped to feed 8000 people, which is I think, the main contribution too others that I gained from this week.
