FIRST TIME TO CLIMB A MOUNTAIN
FIRST TIME TO SEE SNOW

by Bryan Cayabyab (year 32, Philippines)

My stay here at Pearson College made me experience the things that I'm longing to feel. Last October 1, there was a wilderness hike to Mt Arrowsmith. It was my first time to climb a mountain, so I really didnt know what to expect.

The hike itself was really hard and tiring for me but there was also a feeling of satisfaction and self-fulfillment. a happiness brought up by the experiences during the hike. Seeing the panoramic view from the top of the mountain was really a heart striking experience. the exhaustion I'd felt was gone.

.Another thing was the goal of reaching the summit of the mountain. It was actually a dream come true. Reaching it on our way to the summit, there was snow on the ground. Wow! another dream come true. I played the snow with my bare hands because I wanted to know how soft and how cold it is. It was my first time to see real snow. That feeling is really unexplainable. It can't be described through plain words. It's really amazing. On the summit, we expected that it will rain but it didnt. It just snowed....we really shouted for joy. That was the best experience with nature since I came to this college.

Going down the steep mountain was another story. It was horrifying. This was the feeling of falling down but actually in reality were safe. Reaching the ground, I told myself, " Thank God,I'm still alive." The whole of the hike was really unbelievable.
