Alexandre (Sasha) Trudeau "The How's and Why's of Embedded Journalism" |
by Mathieu Isabel (yr 30 3YO,Québec, Canada) On Friday September the 7th, as part of the International Affairs, we had the pleasure to receive at our College Mr. Alexandre Trudeau. It was really a privilege for me to talk to him and to exchange my opinions about the importance of getting to know people before reporting elements of their lives. Mr Trudeau studied philosophy at McGill University prior to become an independent journalist and a documentary film-maker. His work took him all around the country and the world to report issues as broad as the new way of life in communities in Northern Canada as well as presenting the opinion of different families during the US-led war in Iraq. His talk at our College mainly focused on embedded journalism, this way of presenting a story and not the story about different issues. For the realization of his documentaries, he spent many weeks in Israel and Palestine for example, living and sharing his life with different people. He wanted to get to know them and to try to understand their reality. Reporting their story then took a more personal and realistic insight. Mr Trudeau also answered many questions and visited our campus for the first time. Pearson College and his family having a long time cooperation story, it surely was a great honor for us to welcome him here. |
