Here we go again! The college year starts with an Orientation Week, getting first years into appropriate classes (tests!), introducing them to the natural surroundings of Pearson College and the city of Victoria, and bonding the new community. Second years take a significant role in organizing and leading events of the week. It would be impossible to cover all the events of this tightly packed, tightly scheduled week. (Hurrah for Peter Gardner, our Economics teacher who masterminded the elaborate rotation!) Taking swim tests, bicycle tests, math tests, English tests -- taking care of course selection and passport issues -- going on a scavenger hunt in Victoria -- dancing to Latin rhythms -- putting on an international performance (mini-One World) -- and above all struggling to learn all those unfamiliar names -- all these make a start to a new year together. Here I'm highlighting just two experiences shared by all: ORIENTATION WEEK HIKING HOUSE OLYMPICS |
