VARCS (Victoria AIDS Resource Community Service) Activity The VARCS (Victoria AIDS Resource Community Service) activity has been running for the entire year, and alongside performing a piece on AIDS in the One World show, we also formed a public service group which we decided to name the "Angry Housewives", after the "Raging Grannies" that we have here in Victoria. In April, we held a public service announcement at the Speakers Corner (a TV station has put a TV camera on the corner of a street which records you for a dollar) for all the things that we thought needed to be dealt with in Victoria (homeless people, homosexuals and people with AIDS) and how we should go about this. | Pearson students do satiric theatre for the Victoria street and Speaker's Corner. "Of course, we don't actually support sending all the homeless in Victoria to Saskatchewan or that we should put all homosexuals in gulag style camps," comments Michael Yoder, the head of VARCS, "but were merely suggesting more creative ideas to deal with the problems we have in our society, as the BC government doesn't seem to be very imaginative with their proposals." The mocking drama was broadcast on public TV, and local press was there to cover the event. |
