| Special Needs Teens by Chiara Ravetti (year 31) What makes Pearson College so special? Not only the values and ideals that talented young people from all around the world share, but also the possibility that the students have to put these ideals into practice. This is the purpose of the humanitarian service activities that the College organises in the neighbour community, where the students can give their time, energy and skills to help or organise recreation activities. One of these activities is special needs teens: every Wednesday evening a group of students volunteer with young teens with various developmental needs. Some evenings we go the Pearks Arena Recreation Centre, other times the group of teens comes here at Pearson College. The main goal is to have fun together, doing various activities and games: the last meeting for example we made paper with them, under the supervision of Naja, one of our students that is specialized for art in hand-made paper. Now that we know every teen quite well we can really enjoy every session with them; with the helps of the two coordinators of the activity and Art, our art teacher, we plan for every week something new. Paper making was very enjoyable for all of us, especially because we produced something concrete that the teens could bring home. And the results were really amazing: even if the paper was not really dry at the end, the final sheets were really well done. NEXT: KAYAKING |
